I was inspired to create this website as a space to share knowledge, skills, and insights on native gardening, cuisine, and culture based on life in Southern Louisiana. I seek to wander outside my professional persona as an educator and academic author to write about aspects of life here that bring me joy.

In the pages of this website, you will find articles on native and heirloom gardening, recipes and Louisiana foodways, and aspects of culture and language in Southern Louisiana that embody its distinct joie de vivre. I also write about kitchen gadgets and garden tools because I want to share the implements that, in my experience, are essentially helpful for my cooking and cultivation efforts.
